(ii) The people of the Amazon Basin mainly grow tapioca, pineapple and sweet potato. Cash crops like coffee, maize and coca are also grown. The staple food is manioc, also known as cassava that grows under the ground like the potato.
(iii) In the rainforests of the Amazon, birds such as toucans, hummingbirds etc., are found.
(iv) The major cities located on the River Ganga are-Allahabad, Kanpur, Varanasi, Lucknow, Patna and Kolkata etc.
(v) The one-horned rhinoceros is found in the Brahmaputra plain.

Give reasons.
(i) The rainforests are depleting.
(ii) Paddy is grown in the Ganga-Brahmaputra plains.

(i) There are many reasons for depletion of the rainforests. For the various purposes people are cutting the forest in large quantity day by day Many anti-forest groups are active around the areas. They seek ways how the trees can be cut down and its wood can be supplied in the cities where they can get its good price.
Government authorities who have been appointed for the purpose of security of forests’, their number is probably insufficient at all the places. Many times, Forest Officers are faced life threat in saving of forest’s plants. Mr. M.A. Khan, Forest Officer, Kheri, Uttar Pradesh and many more have faced danger many times for their life in this task. As massive campaign are required to save the trees, which are not being run by the authorities. Hence, the rainforests are depleting.
(ii) In the Ganga-Brahmaputra plains the main crop is paddy. Since cultivation of paddy requires sufficient water, it is grown in the areas where the amount of rainfall is high. The Ganga- Brahmaputra plains fulfil this condition because they receive high rainfall. Hence, the paddy is grown in the Ganga-Brahmaputra plains.
